The Afromotive

Live at The Orange Peel

Based in Asheville, NC, this large ensemble stays true to the elements that started afrobeat music- West African rhythms, song forms, and instrumentation- while bringing the music to the 21st Century through strong song writing, improvisation, and heavy beats. Thirty-third generation djembe player Adama Dembele from Cote d‘Ivoire, West Africa brings his vast musical knowledge and touring experience to the Afromotive. These traditional West African rhythms combined with a mentality for upbeat funk music is what the Afromotive brings to its audiences. They have created a sound that crosses musical and ethnic boundaries. On their debut album "Scare Tactics," The Afromotive takes the raw energy of their live performance into the studio. This album is an elaboration on the language of afrobeat music, yielding a truly unique sound that is rooted in tradition.

Murphy's Kids

Mandate / Are You With Me?

Murphy's Kids live to rock. Their goal is to bring everyone into the experience from the folks at the bar to the fans up front. The rhythm section of guitar, bass, and drums thumps out the backbone while the horn section lays their smooth runs on top. Its all complimented by the dual vocal of Attaway and Charlet whos socially-savvy lyrics and anthemic melodies push crowds into a frenzied heat. With all the conjecture about what their sound is and what they are trying to do musically the bottom line is Murphy's Kids brings it. Their paramount goal is for everyone to go home sweaty, exhausted and grinning from ear to ear.

Future

Bucket cutting records in the studio for the debut album

From the outskirts of Babylon comes Future, a 5-piece band focused on the massive blending of psychedelic rock, soulful hip-hop, and universal grooves. Trail blazing with the mantra SPREAD LOVE MASSIVE, they come heavy and direct with the musical intensity to match their message.

Trees On Fire

People

Trees on Fire delivers airtight four-part harmonies supported by a unique blend of electronic and organic styles that gives rise to the term "organica." Formed in music school and honed through live performance and rehearsals in the deep woods, Trees on Fire spreads its original, innovative grooves and delivers its inspirational messages to thousands along the east coast. The group's debut CD, The Green Room (April 2007), captures the genre-bending cross pollination that takes place when this quintet comes together. Creating a significant following through internet exposure and performances described as "the stuff of legends," Trees on Fire is making noise with all the right people.

The Falsies

Live at Lofi Social Club

The Falsies exploit the devices of absurdist drama for equally comic and philosophical ends - some people get it, some don't.

Ryan Villanueva

Chillin' Right Here (Live at TDU)

Ryan Villanueva has an easy going style that you can instantly appreciate. Blending the time tested tradition of the solo guitarist/singer with contemporary looping technology, he builds a layered musical presentation that is hip and relaxing. His work can be heartfelt, solemn, estatic, or just downright fun with picking styles to match each emotion.

The Accordion Death Squad

Live at Rapunzels

Gypsy rhythms, haunting violins, marcabe accordions, and lyrics straight out of Ratsylvania are what you'll find from The Accordion Death Squad. Hop aboard the freight car and bring your moonshine because there's a fire outside tonight.

Barling and Collins

Go To Hell

Stephen Barling (guitar) and Brandon Collins (cello) are two rather reckless bastards who make ornery noise for the sheer jollies of it, art in this case being more a sympton of collective condition than any attempt to really say or prove anything. Both are long-time residents of Charlottesville, Va., a groovy place to,"raise your kids up in." Skulking in the corners of the few smokey C-Ville beeratoriums that would endure them since 1997, they have built a small but proud name for themselves as a couple of bros emminently capable of conjuring obscene noises from a cello.

DJ Maskell

Live at Shamrockfest 2007

Best known for his Nightclub Events and his Elite Mobile DJ Service, DJ Maskell is like no other DJ in the region. His unique style on the turntables and his top-notch showmanship have drawn attention from all over the country. From playing with Legendary DJ Paul Oakenfold at Shamrockfest 2008 for a crowd of 40,000 people, to Starting his own production company Restless Promotions, to opening his very own nightclub The Bourb, no one even comes close to what DJ Maskell has to offer. Based between Washington DC and the Shenandoah Valley since 2002, DJ Maskell has changed the face of nightlife in the region forever.

Red River Rollercoaster

Love Is Contagious

Red River Rollercoaster is a alt-bluegrass country folk blues band playing original music in the Shenandoah valley and well beyond. These five musicians from Harrisonburg sure have a lot of fun doing what they do.

JimiBeckBlues

You Know What I Mean at Spaghettifest 5

Bringing you the heaviest funk, solid rock grooves, and bass all the way up, JimiBeckBlues draws on classic influences that have stood the test of time. Joining in the core three-piece are friends playing anything they want: saxophone, flute, harmonica, whatever fits the jam goes in.

Blatant Vibe

I Wanna Know Your Name

Blatant Vibe keeps it ill, you know it.

The Brooms

It's Alright

Grungy Americana with dirty cowboy chords, tin can drums, and all your friends shouting at the top of their lungs in jubilation. If you like these things, you'll like The Brooms. See you at the bar and save a round for me.
